Event Recap- SB&G's Vendor Appreciation Event

by jenna 29. April 2010 03:33

Now that I'm back from a quick vacay in New Mexico, I finally have a minute to post some photos from SB&G's vendor appreciation event, which was held on April 8 at the Chatham Hill Winery in Morrisville. SB&G holds an event each year to thank all of our advertisers and also to provide a chance to all the amazing wedding specialists to mix & mingle. We had a great time at this year's locally-themed wine & food tasting event, and hope everyone who attended did as well! Thank you to the Chatham Hill Winery, Triangle Catering, Tre Bella Inc, Edible Art, East Coast Entertainment, American Party Rentals and Purple Puddle for helping to bring the soiree together!

Ooh-La-La! Moulin Rouge Opens The Cotton Room

by Denise 19. October 2009 09:18

It was an evening of fantasy and fun, complete with purple drapes, red uplights, and jewel-colored cabanas.  Entertainers on stilts, costumed girls twirling lighted hula hoops and swinging from the ceiling for hours on end -- all clad in the classic Parisian costumes of The Moulin Rouge. Guests were treated to fine food prepared by Triangle Catering, local beers and wines, and the upbeat, funky and irresistible dance tunes provided by GrooveTown Band.

The Official Grand Opening of The Cotton Room at Golden Belt, a former textile mill in Durham, took place on Oct. 16th. The newly renovated 11,000-sq.ft. event facility, owned by Michelle and Dodd Aldred of Triangle Catering, provides a unique urban venue for weddings and other events. The fantasy cake is by Swank Cake Design.

Still Shooting Our Photographers...

by Denise 23. September 2009 04:24

Whew! We are happy to say that our photo shoots are now history, and we have hundreds of fabulous new photos to look through and choose for our Southern Bride & Groom 2010 spreads. (Let the writing and layouts commence!)  A lot of planning and organizing goes into each shoot, and a lot of forethought by our talented publisher Donna. Then, of course, there is the happy coincidence of gifted photographers, talented professionals, beautiful locations, classy items and vendors, and a teeny bit of luck all colliding at one time... that's what makes it so much fun!

First, our Fashion Shoot.

The Fashion Shoot involved gowns from three of our shops, as well as the talents of several hair and make-up professionals. Photographer Neil Boyd is shooting model Cori, wearing a gown from Victorian Rose Bridals, at The Matthews House. Fortunately, the weather was very cooperative that day!

Next, a Mini Floral Shoot.

Mike Bayley photographs Ann wearing her own gown (from Alexia's), and holding a bouquet from Flowers by Gary. In the background is a table set with Gary's floral display. The shoot features the new Cotton Room at the Golden Belt, soon to open.

Then, our Invitation Shoot.

Photographer Dara Blakeley was inspired by our many talented invitation vendors, and set each invitation up creatively to showcase it to the best advantage. The original plan was to shoot outside, but nature had other ideas that day, so we went to Plan B on the porch, with various props. Here she is shooting an attractive set by Floral Dimensions

And, last but not least, covering an annual Triangle NACE event...

Cristobal Perez of Azul Photography documented the delightful tables at the annual NACE Top of the Table competition and fundraising event last night, held at Bay 7, American Tobacco Campus. This pretty silver and brown table featuring B&W photos was entered by fellow photographer Katie Hamister

We Shoot Photographers...!

by Denise 4. September 2009 07:14

Wow, this is a busy time of year for Southern Bride & Groom! It seems each week we have another photo shoot for our 2010 issue...  They are all exciting, and without exception the photographers are fabulous as well as fun to watch.

Last week, we were shooting our cakes out at the Preston Woodall House in Benson. Below, top photo, is a sneak peek with photographer Brian Mullins behind the camera, shooting a cake by Sugarland. Then we had Katie Hamister (center) shooting our caterers for our Catering article. Pictured are the Durham Catering staff in the middle of delicious preparations.  This week was our Product Shoot, which encompasses everything from bridal accessories to wedding party gifts. Pictured is Scott Faber in his studio, shooting some items from Tre Bella Boutique.  Look for all these great photos in our 2010 issue!

Floral Photo Shoot for Magazine

by Denise 16. June 2009 06:43

If you’ve ever wanted to be behind the scenes of a magazine photo shoot, here is a peek.  Southern Bride & Groom spent an entire day last week setting up and shooting table top floral displays and bridal bouquets by 10 of the area’s finest florists, for use in our Floral Spread for the 2010 issue.

Months of preparation and planning led up to one long day with plenty of helping hands out at Brier Creek Country Club in Raleigh. Tables were prepared in the ballroom, gazebo, patio, veranda, trellis garden and even fireside. Helpers, including consultant Angie Wright of Chic Details Weddings & Events, were up and down steps and elevators with chairs, china, glassware, flatware, linens and other rental items for hours on end. But the effort paid off:  the finished displays were exquisite, unique and highly creative. We were so thrilled and impressed with our fabulous florists!  Their imaginative and original ideas were so well executed, and were matched by their high level of enthusiasm and professionalism. We can’t wait to see the resulting images from photographers James and Meridith Walters of Walters & Walters Photography. Lovely gowns were provided by Alexia's, and our model Lisa showed them off beautifully along with breathtaking jewelry from Bailey's Fine Jewelry . (The next issue will be out in mid-December.)

Photos below are provided by SB&G staff.  James Walters gets a higher angle on an English Garden table.  Meredith Walters finds good natural lighting for model Lisa Williams.  Tables in ballroom, front to back are by: Watered Garden Florist, Ninth Street Flowers and Purple Puddle.

SB&G Spring Luncheon at Sisters’ Garden

by Denise 22. April 2009 06:51

Southern Bride & Groom Magazine hosted a customer lunch in early April at Sisters’ Garden & Catering Company in Raleigh. The “Southern Roots” theme included traditional southern fare, authentic Piedmont Blues music played by Island Sound DJs and Video along with a slideshow of some favorite photos, and table displays of past magazine covers completing the decor. Our providers for the luncheon were Barbara Clark of An Elegant Affair as consultant, Floral Dimensions for spring table arrangements, Paperwhites Press for invitations, Classic Party Rentals for linens, and Sweet Memories for mini-cupcake desserts.  Photos provided by Bella Rose Photography and SB&G.
